Justice TradeMark Lawsuit

The Journey of Levi Sap Nei Thang: A Legal Battle for ‘Justice’

Levi Sap Nei Thang, a passionate entrepreneur, is someone who believes in the power of positive names. With her daughter’s name, Emmanuel, embedded in her brand, she has made a significant stride in the fragrance industry. However, her journey took an unexpected turn when she received her first lawsuit.

The Trademark “Justice” and Its Implications

In 2012, Levi filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the trademark “Justice.” This was under her brand, Levi Emmanuel, and aimed at creating a meaningful imprint within the industry. The approval from the USPTO to use the term “Justice” was a crucial milestone, confirming her intent to use it for her fragrances, which she believed would positively impact others.

After receiving the green light from the USPTO to use the name “Justice” for her line of fragrances, she was elated.

The Lawsuit and Its Aftermath

However, the excitement was short-lived when, out of the blue, she encountered unforeseen challenges that prevented her from launching her beloved Justice perfume. Though the anticipation of success was high, the winds shifted when Twin Brand LLC, a three billions company, filed a lawsuit challenging her right to utilize the name “Justice.” Despite her efforts, Levi lost the right to this empowering name.

As fate would have it, Twin Brand LLC declared bankruptcy in 2021, leaving many curious about the unfolding story.

Emotional Turmoil

Facing the disappointment of not sharing her creation with the world was tough, especially as the fragrance was inspired by her late daughter’s spirit. The name “Justice” was meant to honor her daughter Emmanuel, carrying the essence of love and memories. Unfortunately, the situation turned sour when the name became associated with adverse experiences, making her question the integrity of the brand she had built.

Finding a New Path

Feeling heartbroken, she made the difficult decision to step away from using Emmanuel’s name in her productions. Instead, she turned to her full name, Levi Sap Nei Thang, creating a fresh identity that felt authentic and resilient. While this transition was not easy, it allowed her to regain control over her narrative.
